Mercedes EIS / EZS cloning service

The $500 base service includes the replacement EIS and cloning. You do not need to source a donor ignition switch. Applicable Keyless GO or recovery options, optional spare keys, shipping and tax are additional as shown at checkout.

A replacement Electronic Ignition Switch must be matched to your Mercedes. Our bench cloning service transfers the original EIS data to a compatible replacement unit. The EIS is part of the vehicle's Drive Authorization System; a used ignition switch is not ready for your car simply because it plugs in.

This service is for supported vehicles with a diagnosed EIS problem. Key recognition, a key that will not turn, intermittent starting, or a no-crank/no-start condition can have other causes. Confirm the fault before ordering. For help choosing the service, read our Mercedes EIS cloning FAQ.

Which Mercedes ignition switches can be cloned?

We clone most supported EIS applications from 1998–2014. The year or chassis alone does not confirm compatibility. FBS4 EIS units are outside this service, including some applications that changed systems before 2015. Send your year, model and EIS part number if you are unsure.

• C-Class and GLK: supported W202, W203, W204 and X204 applications.
• E-Class, CLK and CLS: supported W208, W209, W210, W211, W212, C207, W218 and W219 applications.
• ML, GL and R-Class: supported W164, X164 and W251 applications.
• Other listed applications: supported W221 and W246 EIS units.

The C207 designation refers to the E-Class Coupe. Confirm an A207 Cabriolet application with us before ordering; do not assume coverage from a similar model name.

Use the correct EIS service for your chassis

• C215 CL-Class, W220 S-Class and R230 SL-Class EIS cloning has a separate service page.

• For an applicable 2009–2012 ML, GL or R-Class unit, compare our W164 / X164 / W251 EIS repair service or contact us to confirm which service fits the diagnosed fault.

How the mail-in EIS cloning service works

1. Confirm your application. Tell us your year, model, EIS part number and whether the car has Keyless GO. We supply the replacement EIS as part of the base service.
2. Select your service options. Keyless GO (Code 889) vehicles require the applicable Keyless GO option. Spare keys and shipping insurance are available in the options above.
3. Send the removed original EIS and a key, if available. Use the shipping instructions supplied with your order and include the order number so we can identify your package.
4. We clone the supported EIS on the bench. The vehicle does not need to be brought to us for this mail-in service. We return the programmed replacement for installation.

What if I have no key or the original EIS is missing?

A missing key does not automatically prevent cloning when the original EIS is available. If your EIS is lost, stolen or too damaged to read, contact us first about recovery using the original ECM and instrument cluster. New keys are required when the original EIS key-password data cannot be recovered. The parts, options and feasibility must be confirmed for your application before you ship.

We can clone and send a supported EIS back the same day it arrives. Contact us about timing for a recovery case or an uncertain application. Shipping transit time is separate from bench turnaround; choose the available shipping service at checkout.

Warranty, spare keys and optional insurance

We back the cloned EIS and keys supplied with the service, when applicable, with a two-year warranty. Use the options above for current spare-key and Keyless GO prices. Optional shipping insurance covers loss or damage in transit to us or back to you. Proper packaging is required; damage caused by insufficient or improper packaging is not covered. If you are considering a used Mercedes EIS, confirm compatibility and programming requirements before buying it. A used unit and a cloning service are different purchases.

Is the no-start problem in the EIS or the steering lock?

The EIS and Electronic Steering Lock (ESL) are different components. Similar no-start symptoms do not establish which has failed. Cloning the EIS does not repair an unrelated ESL, key, power-supply or wiring fault.
