Description
Mercedes SLK R170 START ERROR repair
If your SLK displays START ERROR and will not start, the key, immobilizer (DAS2b/SKREEM/RFL), and engine computer may not be completing drive authorization. Our $550 send-in service assesses and repairs supported authorization faults using your original components. Shipping is additional.
Models and years
- SLK230 Kompressor: 1998–2004 U.S. model years
- SLK320: 2001–2004 U.S. model years
- SLK32 AMG: 2002–2004 U.S. model years
This listing covers the first-generation R170. Contact us with your VIN and clear ECU and immobilizer module-label photographs before ordering so we can verify the system and service eligibility. Earlier-production and non-U.S. R170 vehicles require individual verification; the year ranges above are U.S. model years, not worldwide production dates. Model year alone does not confirm the cause of a no-start. This service is not for the later R171/R172 SLK steering-lock system.
What to send
- Your original engine computer (ECU/ECM).
- Your original immobilizer module (DAS2b/SKREEM/RFL).
- All available keys. If you only have one key, send that key. If all keys are lost, contact us before purchasing.
- Your order number, VIN, contact details, fault codes if available, and a brief description of the problem and previous repairs.
Do not send unrelated modules or a donor set unless we have discussed it with you first. Have a qualified technician identify and remove the components if needed. The vehicle itself is not shipped to us.
How the service works
- Purchase this service and choose the available shipping option at checkout.
- Follow your order’s shipping-label and packing instructions. Wrap each module separately, protect the connectors, and secure the keys inside the box.
- BTM first assesses your original components on the bench and attempts the supported repair and synchronization. The aim is to return the matched components ready to reinstall without additional programming, provided the vehicle has no other faults.
- If we cannot complete the repair in-house, we may recommend help from a trusted specialist. We will obtain your approval before referring or forwarding your components, and explain any proposed additional work or charges before proceeding.
- Reinstall the returned components and have your technician verify operation in the vehicle.
Before you order
START ERROR is a symptom, not a diagnosis of one failed component. A damaged key, module fault, wiring problem, or power-supply fault can prevent authorization. A no-start without this message may have a different cause. Contact us with your VIN and symptoms if you are unsure this service is appropriate.
This is a service for your supplied components, not a replacement ECU, immobilizer, key, or complete kit. Removal, installation, unrelated electrical or mechanical repairs, and additional keys are not included. Repairability depends on the condition of the components and their data; prior programming, water damage, or unsuccessful repairs should be disclosed before shipment. Contact us for current turnaround time.
